Zdzisław BeksińskiBasic information from Wikipedia:
Zdzisław Beksiński (Polish pronunciation: [ˈzd͡ʑiswaf bɛkˈɕiɲski]; 24 February 1929 – 21 February 2005) was a renowned Polish painter, photographer, and sculptor. Beksiński executed his paintings and drawings either in what he called a 'Baroque' or a 'Gothic' manner. The first style is dominated by representation, with the best-known examples coming from his fantastic realism period when he painted disturbing images of a surrealistic, nightmarish environment. The second style is more abstract, being dominated by form, and is typified by Beksiński's later paintings. Beksiński was murdered in 2005. (link to full article) |

Jacek Yerka
Basic information from Wikipedia:
Jacek Yerka is a Polish painter from Toruń. Yerka's work has been exhibited in Poland, Germany, Monaco, France, and the United States, and may be found in the museums of Poland. Yerka began working full time as an artist in 1980. He had several contracts with gallaries in Warsaw and also worked for commissions.[8] He cites Hieronymus Bosch, Pieter Bruegel, Cagliostro, Jan van Eyck, and Hugo van der Goes as formative influencers of his work. His subject matter ranges from odd beasts to whimsical landscapes incorporating extraordinary architecture, and include imagery gleamed from his childhood, such as his grandmothers kitchen. Says Yerka, "For me, the 1950s were a kind of Golden Age ... If I were, for instance, to paint a computer, it would definitely have a pre-war aesthetic to it." In 1990, Yerka received a contract with Hollywood producer Renee Daalder to design figures, monster-machines and surreal landscapes for the science fiction film Strawberry fields. The film planned to combine both Yerka's work with songs from the Beatles and Yerka participated in the first stage of its production.[9] Work typically progresses from a graphitesketch, to crayon drawing, then a pastel com, and finally an acrylic painting.[10] |
I like Yerka because his paintings are some how real nevertheless full of pure fantasy and fiction. Here are some pages where you can read about him and watch his paintings:

And others less favorite:
- Jean-marie Poumeyrol - for me his a little to sex oriented (obsessed) not all of his work grabs my attention
- Shen Ning (沈宁) - an artist with a different aesthetics and a different cultural perspective.
- Alberto Pancorbo - a spanish painter.
- James Jean - also disturbing I find aesthetically pleasing only part of his work, some of them simply brilliant.
- Wayne Barlowe - a lot of works some of them a lot resembling Beksiński but lacking that "something" the other really great.
- Dariusz Zawadzki - influenced by Beksiński sometime to the point it could be called his continuator.
- Serge Marshennikov - he produce photolike paintings of which almost all feature naked or partially naked sleeping woman. He has really outstanding oil painting technique.
- Andrew Wyeth - he is the worlds class painter no need to introduce.
- Maurits Cornelis Escher - the artist from the 20's onwards he is highly influential, his legacy can be seen in modern visual art all over.
- De Es Schwertberger - for me his art is a little repetitive, but on the other hand whose is not?
- Javier Gil - some people may found part of his work pretty disturbing and offending. There are some of his works that I cannot find any reason behind the image as if painted merely as a next item to his theater of shock.
